NEW Kids Picture Books: Day 8

Little Fox in the Forest
by Stephanie Graegin. February 2017. 40 pages.

From Amazon: "When a young girl brings her beloved stuffed fox to the playground, much to her astonishment, a real fox takes off with it! The girl chases the fox into the woods with her friend, the boy, following close behind, but soon the two children lose track of the fox. Wandering deeper and deeper into the forest, they come across a tall hedge with an archway. What do they find on the other side? A marvelous village of miniature stone cottages, tiny treehouses, and, most extraordinary of all, woodland creatures of every shape and size. But where is the little fox? And how will they find him?"

My thoughts: At first I was unsure of this as a book to read with my kids, as it's a wordless book. The story is told completely through pictures. But the more I paged through it on my own, the more I loved it. It's obviously not great for a true read-aloud, but as a way to get my kids to describe the pictures and tell the story themselves? It's awesome. I also loved the difference in black & white pictures at the beginning of the book and the color that appears partway through (a bit Wizard-of-Oz-ish).

Recommended Age: 4-8 years
