NEW Kids Picture Books: Day 7

Jack and the Beanstalk
by Anna Milbourne. Summer 2015.

From Usborne: "This beautifully illustrated picture book retells the story of Jack and his mother who are so poor, they have no food and not much hope... until Jack meets a strange little man with a handful of magic beans."

My thoughts: I first fell in love with Usborne's classic-story picture books with Cinderella, and have since also gotten Robin Hood (now out of print) and Snow White. This book was released in the summer 2015 catalog, and I can't wait to see what other classics will be printed next!

I'll admit I didn't know much of the Jack and the Beanstalk story other than the Mickey Mouse movie, and then I read a chapter book retelling of it last spring. This picture book version is true to the original tale, though it does leave out the capturing of the harp and the gold, I'm guessing to keep the story shorter. It does include the famous line by the giant: "Fee, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman! Be he alive or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread!"

If you want a way to introduce your kids to classic fairy tales without the commercialized Disney-versions, check out these picture books by Usborne!
