I Will Take a Nap! by Mo Willems. June 2015.
From Amazon: "Gerald is careful. Piggie is not. Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can. Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to. Gerald and Piggie are best friends. In I Will Take a Nap! Gerald is tired and cranky. Will Piggie be in his dreams? Or will she keep Gerald from dreaming at all?"
My thoughts: I'll admit it took me awhile to become a Mo Willems fan. The straight dialogue with speech bubbles was hard for me to read aloud and keep kids engaged -- I felt like I was too often filling in explanations of what was happening on the page. But I've really grown to enjoy the Elephant and Piggie books, and my kids love them too. My 5-year-old easily reads them out loud and I'll even catch my 3-year-old "reading" (reciting from memory) the pages as she flips them.
This particular Elephant & Piggie book is fun to read for naptime and hopefully encourages kids to get some sleep so they're not cranky anymore. Though beware, you may have kids singing about turnip heads for days... :)
Recommended Age: 6-8 years, though my 3-year-old loves Elephant & Piggie books.
