From Usborne: "This beautifully illustrated picture book retells the timeless classic of Little Red Riding Hood with simple text - sure to be treasured! Little Red Riding Hood is off to visit her Grandma, but following her through the forest is a very hungry wolf. Find out how she escapes the wolf 's greedy clutches in this lively retelling of the classic fairy tale."
My thoughts: I love Lorena Alvarez's illustrations (we also have Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella). When re-telling fairy tales, there is always the question of whether to reveal the "original" story versus taming it down... As my pictures below show, this tale does tell about how the wolf gobbles up Grandma and Red, as well as cutting open the wolf's belly to rescue them. BUT there is a surprise twist at the very end, where Grandma stitches his belly back up, and he is taught a lesson about being kind!
