My thoughts: I'm going to admit something that may be blasphemy among children's librarians: I was not a fan of Pete the Cat when he first came out. Now that he's had a few more adventures, he's still not my first choice for a picture book, but I can read them aloud to storytime kids with gusto if I need to. Listening to the audio clips available of the author reading the books has helped.
I feel the same way toward The Nuts -- it sounds like this book will be the first in a new series by Litwin, so maybe I will grow to like them more as time goes on. As with his others, Litwin has created an audio file of him reading the book and singing the songs, complete with kids singing along. I'm sure this book will be a hit with any kids who already love Pete the Cat!

I have not read any Pete the Cat yet...I will have to see if the library has them and this nut book, too! Our house is definitely a nut house. :)

DeleteI don't feel bad about Pete the Cat, ha ha. My 7 year old loves him. I have never seen this nut series though.

DeleteI actually loved Pete the Cat. I had fun making up my own melody for his songs. I wonder if listening to the audio clips would ruin that for me...
ReplyDeleteThe first time I tried to read aloud I Love My White Shoes, I had no clue there was a song, and apparently all the school-aged kids knew it and tried to sing it. #childrenlibrarianfail

DeleteI am enjoying the books! I checked out the first two from our library and have the other four on hold...it's like being a kid in a library again or a young mom looking for good books for my boys...thanks for this fun way to be young at heart this month!
